We subscribe to a free email list (*another* one!) that sends, only once a day, a new word with its definition, example usage and a little of its background. Check it out and look for the Word of the Day section. ~David in NZ

This links you to a sampler for the 4th-12th grade books. The neat thing about this vocabulary series is that multiple meanings of the words are taught.  ~AngieW
Ed Helper let's you make word lists and has great vocabulary building helps for grades 1-12, including SATs.  You have to sign up for some features, but it looks like it's free. ~Jube
